Audiophile Speakers

Audiophile speakers are great for anyone who is serious about their sound experience.

Are you an audiophile?  Wikipedia defines an audiophile as a “hobbyist who seeks- high quality audio reproduction via the use of non-mass-produced high-end audio electronics.”  Do you fit this description?  If you are nodding your head, then you already probably know that you are seeking some of the highest quality speakers on the market.  Whether you are looking for high quality desktop speakers, a 5.1 set to complete your home-theatre system, or just looking to find out more on the best speakers, there is are several options of audiophile speakers to match your needs.

Since there’s no concrete definition to audiophile speakers, for the sake of this article we will consider audiophile speakers any high-end speaker system that offers something unique, possibly through sound quality and/or aesthetics.   Of course, if you want to spend enough money, there are an endless number of options of speaker systems to choose from.  We will be focusing on audiophile speaker systems that are somewhat affordable.

When purchasing audiophile speakers, there are a few things to look out for.  The most important question is most likely, “is the product worth it?”  When it comes to tech products, there’s a good chance that if you are looking to buy a rare item, it will be expensive, however, this does not have to be the case.

One of the best audiophile speaker systems on the market right now is the 5.1 Home theater System by Energy Take Classic.  The speakers have a shiny black laminate finish and while they are tiny in size, do not lack in sound.  This six piece system (two front speakers, two rear speakers, a center speaker and subwoofer) packs a serious punch of sound, and is one of the better deals for audiophile speakers at $600.

The Klipsch RB-81 is another great option for audiophile speakers.  Standing 19 inches tall, this minimalistic two-piece sound system fits conveniently on any bookshelf but provides a massive 600W Peak sound.  With an 8 inch woofer built in, this system is surprisingly bass-heavy.  Different stores will have different prices, but on average this system is currently going for roughly $800.

If the aforementioned speaker systems are out of your budget, don’t worry.  You don’t have to spend an arm and a leg to own a high quality sound system.  The PSB Alpha B Bookshelf speakers go for $249 and have a classic finish with a classic sound.  The best deal on the market, however, belongs to the Paradigm Atom V5 bookshelf speakers.  At $250 per pair, you won’t find higher sound quality.

Another question to ask when buying audiophile speakers is, “Does the sound quality meet my expectations?”  A lot of speakers may be rare, and may have a complex design.  Just because a speaker system looks cool, doesn’t mean the sound quality is there.  Bang and Olufson is an example of a speaker brand that is able to offer a catalog of unique styles and designs, while maintaining the sound integrity you have come to expect from their products.  When it comes to expensive audiophile speakers, the sound quality better be there!
